This magazine is much longer than yours, however there are lots of things you could do to improve your individual pages- layout and design, uniform colours, more content??? Now you have written the content you can now start to develop a house style: Tasks-

  • Using the whiteboard and a programme like PowerPoint sample and agree on the house colours and fonts for the magazine
  • Decide on the front cover main image and the menu bar for the front cover
  • Decide on how to fill the remaining pages in the magazine (12 pages in total). Which ones are already covered? What else do you need to do

Some work on memory sticks in my pencil case at the whiteboard

Year 7 Journalism Taster Lesson

Welcome to Journalism. In this lesson you will write articles, take photos and videos and become an editor or copywriter. The purpose is to produce a newsletter each big term for Year 7 Specialist Schools:
A taster session follows to show you what it is like to be a copywriter (someone who writes the articles for a newspaper)

There has been a death in Carterton. The facts are:

Sadie Black, married to James Black was walking home from her parents' house when a jogger wearing a black hoodie asked her for directions to Subway. What else do we know about the murder?

Were there any witnesses? What about her husband; is he a suspect in the case?
Where did this take place? What about her children?

Why was she killed?

As a class look at the PowerPoint and consider how you may start to write a report on the murder. Listen to some of the other class' reports and read the newspaper report on the PowerPoint. You will have 30 minutes to write the report then we will read them to the class. Those read out will get a bar of chocolate.
